Sourcing support for hake, horse mackerel and monk operators, marine engineering workshops and onshore processing plants — from a single part number to a full docking list.
Sourcing for Namibian fleets and factories
Namibia's fishing industry is concentrated in two ports. Walvis Bay is the main fishing, processing and ship repair port, with the Namdock floating docks and the Namport syncrolift; Lüderitz supports hake operators whose wetfish trawlers land to filleting plants in the town. Hake is the largest segment, harvested by wetfish trawlers, freezer trawlers and longliners, while midwater trawlers catch horse mackerel for freezing at sea or landing ashore.
A large share of the equipment on these vessels and in the factories comes from Europe: Spanish-built trawlers, some with Spanish deck machinery, processing and refrigeration equipment from Northern European makers, and medium-speed engines from European manufacturers. Parts for that equipment are usually ordered from Europe, and often from several manufacturers at once.
Passat Gear Trade works for fleet technical departments, chief engineers, Walvis Bay marine engineering workshops and factory engineers. We review the request, source from manufacturers and distributors, and coordinate shipment to Walvis Bay, Lüderitz or your forwarder.
Fleet segments
Typical equipment and recurring spare parts requirements by segment. Actual installations vary from vessel to vessel, which is why we work from model and serial numbers.
| Segment | Typical equipment | Spare parts often required |
|---|---|---|
| Hake wetfish trawlers (Walvis Bay, Lüderitz) | Main engine and reduction gearbox, trawl winches and net drum, hydraulic power packs, fish hold cooling or ice, gutting and washing equipment | Engine overhaul parts and filters, winch brake linings and hydraulic motor seal kits, pump impellers and mechanical seals, refrigeration controls |
| Hake freezer trawlers | Onboard heading and filleting machines, plate freezers, refrigeration compressors, generator sets | Knives, guides and wear parts, plate freezer hydraulic parts, compressor overhaul kits, expansion valves and sensors |
| Hake longliners | Line haulers, hydraulic power units, freezing or chilling plant, auxiliary engines | Hydraulic pumps, motors and valves, hauler wear parts, refrigeration parts, generator spares |
| Midwater trawlers (horse mackerel) | Large trawl winches and net drums, fish pumps, RSW or plate freezing, high-output main engines | Winch control valves, fish pump seals and impellers, refrigeration compressor parts, separator and heat exchanger spares |
| Onshore hake factories | Filleting, skinning and trimming lines, conveyors, graders, plate and blast freezers, ammonia refrigeration, cold stores | Machine knives and guides, conveyor belts and sprockets, gearmotors and stainless bearings, compressor and valve parts |
| Ship repair and engineering workshops | Docking and repair work across all segments | Mixed docking lists: shaft seals, valves, pump parts, sensors, engine and gearbox parts |
Fleet renewal and older vessels
Fleet renewal in Namibia has drawn heavily on Spanish shipyards. In 2026 the 59.82-metre hake freezer trawler Olupale joined NovaNam, Nueva Pescanova's Namibian subsidiary; trade press reported the vessel as built at Armón's Navia yard with Ibercisa electric deck machinery. Earlier, in 2019, Armón in Vigo delivered the wetfish trawler Lalandii 1 for hake operations out of Lüderitz.
For buyers this has practical consequences. Winch, hydraulic, refrigeration and processing parts for these vessels come from European manufacturers and distributors, often with documentation in Spanish or another European language. Older vessels in the fleet raise a different problem: superseded part numbers and equipment no longer actively supported by its original maker. Both are the kind of request we handle — see Ibercisa winch parts, deck machinery and marine refrigeration.

Logistics to Namibia
Items from several European suppliers can be brought together in Poland and shipped as one consignment with one set of documents. For a breakdown, urgent lines can travel separately by air while the rest of the list follows.

Example requests
Illustrative examples of typical requests — not customer references.
Brake band linings and a hydraulic motor seal kit for a trawl winch, quoted from the winch maker, model and the drawing number on the nameplate.
Knife sets and guide parts for a heading and filleting line, matched by machine type, serial number and photos of the worn parts.
An overhaul kit, shaft seal and oil filters for a refrigeration screw compressor, consolidated with engine-room filters in one shipment.
Gearmotors, stainless bearings and a replacement conveyor belt for a filleting line, ordered against the plant's own spare-parts list.
A superseded pressure transmitter and solenoid valve coils for an older vessel, with equivalents checked against range, output signal and connection.
Shaft seal parts, sea valves, pump impellers and sensors for a vessel going onto the floating dock, quoted line by line with lead times.
FAQ
Yes. We arrange freight to the port, airport, forwarder or ship agent you nominate. Urgent air shipments normally route via Windhoek's Hosea Kutako International Airport and continue by road; heavier or planned items can go by sea freight to the Port of Walvis Bay. Costs and routing are quoted per RFQ — we do not promise transit times we cannot control.
Imports into Namibia are declared to the Namibia Revenue Agency on a SAD 500 goods declaration by the importer or a clearing agent. We supply the commercial invoice, packing list and, on request, HS codes and the origin information available for the goods, and we can coordinate directly with your clearing agent.
Where original parts are available through manufacturers or distributors we quote them as such. If an original part is obsolete, or you ask for alternatives, we may also offer an equivalent — the quotation always states which is which. Passat Gear Trade is an independent sourcing company and not an authorised distributor of every brand we mention.
Yes — send the list as early as possible. We quote line by line, show the lead time for each item and consolidate what can travel together. Stock items can often move quickly, while made-to-order parts from European manufacturers can take several weeks, so early lists give the most options.
Yes. Filleting, heading and skinning machine parts, conveyors and gearmotors, freezer and refrigeration components are all within scope. For processing machines, send the machine type and serial number from the nameplate and the parts-catalogue position numbers if you have them. See fish processing machinery spare parts.
No. We are based in Lublin, Poland, and work with Namibian buyers by email and phone. We have no office or stock in Namibia. Direct contacts for technical, logistics and accounting questions are on our team page.
