Spare parts for fishing fleets and fish processors in Namibia and South Africa

Independent European sourcing of engine, deck machinery, hydraulic, refrigeration and processing-line parts — quoted from your part numbers, nameplates, drawings or parts lists.

Who this page is for

A European procurement desk for Walvis Bay, Lüderitz and the Cape fishing ports

The commercial fishing fleets of Namibia and South Africa depend heavily on equipment manufactured abroad: trawlers built or rebuilt in Spanish and Norwegian yards, medium-speed main engines, trawl winches and hydraulic systems, refrigeration plant and onboard or onshore filleting lines. When a part is not available from local stock, a technical department can end up chasing several manufacturers and distributors in different countries for a single docking.

Passat Gear Trade is an independent sourcing company based in Lublin, Poland. We take a technical request for quotation — one item or a complete parts list — check the references, contact suitable manufacturers and distributors, and return one quotation with prices, lead times and shipping options to your port, forwarder or ship agent.

Our buyers are fleet technical managers, vessel superintendents, chief engineers, purchasing departments, workshop managers and processing-plant engineers. We do not sell to consumers.

Two markets, different fleets

Namibia and South Africa at a glance

Both countries fish the Benguela system and both depend on hake, but the fleets, ports and processing set-ups differ — so each has its own page.

Namibia — Walvis Bay and Lüderitz

Hake is the largest segment. Wetfish trawlers land to onshore filleting factories in Walvis Bay and Lüderitz, alongside freezer trawlers and longliners. Midwater trawlers target horse mackerel, which had a 2026 total allowable catch of 197,000 tonnes split 60% freezer and 40% wet-landed. Around 235 vessels were reported to be supplying some 30 onshore processing plants in 2025.

South Africa — Cape Town to Gqeberha

The deep-sea hake trawl fishery operates 53 trawlers — 27 freezer and 26 wetfish — according to its industry association, with factories in Cape Town, Gansbaai, Mossel Bay and Gqeberha. Pelagic purse seiners supply canning and fishmeal plants on the West Coast, and the squid jig fleet works from the Eastern Cape.

What Passat Gear adds to your purchasing

One RFQ, several manufacturersSend a mixed list — engine, winch, refrigeration and processing-line items — and receive one structured quotation instead of managing separate inquiries in several countries.
Technical check before we quoteWe compare part numbers with the model and serial number you give us, flag superseded numbers and ask questions early rather than quoting the wrong item.
Obsolete and hard-to-find partsFor older vessels and machines we search distributor and surplus stock and, where appropriate, equivalents — always marked clearly on the quotation.
Export paperwork from the EUCommercial invoice, packing list and, where available for the goods, origin documentation for your clearing agent.

FAQ

Questions from buyers in Namibia and South Africa

Which fishing operations in Namibia and South Africa do you support?

Fleet operators, marine engineering workshops, ship repairers and processing plants: hake wetfish and freezer trawlers, longliners, midwater trawlers, purse seiners, squid jiggers and onshore factories. The country pages describe the fleets and ports in more detail — see Namibia and South Africa.

What do I need to send for a quotation?

The manufacturer, equipment model and part number are ideal. If you do not have a part number, send the serial number, a nameplate photograph, a drawing, an old quotation or a photo of the worn part with its dimensions. Add the quantity, the delivery port or forwarder and the date you need the parts.

Are you an authorised distributor of the brands you mention?

Not of every brand. Passat Gear Trade is an independent sourcing company. Brand names are used to identify equipment and parts. Each quotation states what is being offered — for example an original part from the manufacturer's channel or an equivalent — and no brand relationship is implied unless it is confirmed in writing for a specific supply.

Can you combine parts from several manufacturers in one shipment?

Yes, where it makes sense. Multi-maker lists are a large part of what we do: we quote each line, and where lead times allow we consolidate the items into one export shipment with one set of documents. Items that are needed urgently can be split out and sent separately.

How are parts shipped to Namibia and South Africa?

Urgent, lighter items usually go by air freight; heavier or planned items by sea freight. We can deliver to your clearing agent, your forwarder, a ship agent or your nominated address. Freight options, costs and Incoterms are stated on the quotation — transit times depend on the routing and are not guaranteed in advance.

Do you have an office in Namibia or South Africa?

No. We work from Lublin, Poland, by email and phone, and coordinate freight to the region. Our team page lists direct contacts for technical questions, logistics and accounts.
